Electrical energy from radiofrequency (RF) current can been used to heat up the dermis to generate new collagen production and to contract and tighten the existing collagen. RF devices can be classified in 2 categories: monopolar systems and bipolar systems. The monopolar configuration consists of an active treatment electrode and a grounding electrode. In the bipolar configuration, the current passes between 2 identical electrodes located a short distance apart from each other.
The Polaris WR applicator is a bipolar radiofrequency device. In addition, it has incorporated a combination of optical energy to the RF energy.
